Arkansas Shakespeare Bard Ball To “Swing Along with Shakespeare”

Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre will host its annual fundraiser, The Bard Ball, on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Junior League Building, 300 Scott St., in Little Rock.

The theme for the event will be “Swing Along with Shakespeare.”

For this year’s Bard Ball, AST will travel back to the Big Band era for an evening of swing music, savory appetizers, live and silent auctions and a sneak peek at the upcoming theatrical season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jordan Coughtry, this season’s Hamlet, to Central Arkansas to entertain our audience with the original music he is writing for the upcoming season,” said Dr. Mary Ruth Marotte, executive director of AST. “In addition, we will have John Willis, finalist for the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase, playing Sinatra-inspired tunes perfect for a night of dancing.”

Individual tickets for the event are $75 ($90 at the door). Tables of 10 are $650. Tickets can be purchased at arkshakes.com or by calling Liz Parker at (501) 450-5092 or by emailing [email protected] Suggested dress for the event is cocktail attire. All proceeds will go toward the 2014 season.

Subscriptions for AST’s upcoming season go on sale April 1 with single tickets on sale May 1. The season begins June 5 with the comedy Two Gentlemen of Verona at The Village at Hendrix, which will travel later in the month to North Little Rock’s Argenta Arts District. Other shows this season will be Hamlet, the musical Pippin, and an adaptation of The Comedy of Errors for young audiences, all in Reynolds Performance Hall on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
