Arts in the Hospital Hosts Special Exhibit at Cancer Center

White County Medical Center and White County Oncology, an outpatient department of WCMC, have announced that the ‘Expressions of a Cancer Journey’ art exhibit will be on display in the White County Oncology main lobby area inside the Cancer Center of Excellence, located at 415 Rodgers Drive in Searcy, from October 1-12.

The exhibit includes 25 pieces of art that will be displayed. Each piece was crafted by a variety of individuals who used art as an outward expression of hope and strength. The works of art were done by patients, survivors, family members, friends and caregivers, as well as healthcare providers, whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

The ‘Expressions of a Cancer Journey’ art exhibit is taking place in conjunction with the launch of the Cancer Connectors program. Navigating cancer alone can be daunting, which is why Searcy resident Carla Fowler volunteered to help start a new program called Cancer Connectors, which is being offered through White County Oncology.

Through the Cancer Connectors program, newly-diagnosed patients are paired with survivors who have recently weathered their own storm of cancer. “I envision this program as a mentor program where the survivor will be able to share their experience and treatment story with a new patient who has the same type of cancer,” Fowler said. “This program will serve as a critical source of support for those who are newly diagnosed.”

“Being diagnosed with cancer is overwhelming,” Fowler said. “The Cancer Center and Cancer Connectors group is a wonderful resource for both educational information about different types of cancer, and just as importantly, emotional support.”
