The New Great Passion Play celebrates Christmas with lighted display
Friday, October 31st, 2008EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – See the beginnings of the Greatest Story Ever Told and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the grounds of The New Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs this holiday season. More than 100 figures recreate the Christmas story along an extravagant 5,280-foot lighted drive-through display. Opening nightly at 5 p.m. beginning Nov. 9, there is no charge, but donations are accepted.
Award-winning gospel group The Texans will entertain with traditional Christmas music and comedy on weekends at 5 p.m. beginning Nov. 21. Voted two-time Branson Entertainer of the Year and three-time Branson Group of the Year, tickets to their show are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages six to 18, with children younger than six admitted at no charge. Van Buren Community Band Concert Shirley November 1
Thursday, October 30th, 2008North Central Arkansas Foundation for the Arts & Education (NCAFA&E) and United Way will present the Van Buren Community Band in concert Sunday, November 2, at 3:00 P.M. at the Shirley Auditorium. The band is composed of professional musicians and talented amateurs from Clinton, Bee Branch, Greenbrier, Marshall, Leslie, St. Joe, and Fairfield Bay. The band is under the direction of Dell Holt.
Their selections will include patriotic music, standards, show tunes, Dixieland, Big Band, and ragtime with several guest conductors.
Hannah Cruse will open the performance as the guest student performer. Hannah began her musical career with the Central Arkansas Home School Band as a clarinetist and at age 12 began to play the oboe. She has successfully competed on the national level and was awarded a scholarship to attend Interlochen this past summer. This talented 14 year old is a member of the Van Buren Community Band and regularly performs with the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Arkansas Symphony at Lyon College Batesville November 2
Thursday, October 30th, 2008Arkansas Symphony returns to the stage of Lyon College’s Brown Chapel November 2, Sunday at 2:30 pm. after time change “fall back”. Batesville Symphony League recognizes First Community Bank for its lead gift in bringing the orchestra for community enjoyment and Lyon College for its generous gift of facilities. Lyon faculty, staff, and students may attend using their Lyon ID. Tickets are available in advance at Carlee’s Hallmark, Teacher 2 Teacher, First Community Bank, and Citizens Bank. Wednesday, October 29th, 2008Judge John Dan Kemp of Mountain View was elected as Presidet of the Arkansas Judicial Council at the recent fall meeting held in Jonesboro.
The Council was organized “To Foster and preserve the integrity, dignity, and independence of the judiciary; to promote uniformity and dispatch in judicial administration; to develop, implement and maintain a program of judicial education assisting members newly elected or appointed to the bench; and to provide continuing legla education for members.”
Under the District’s current Administrative Plan, approved by the Arkansas Supreme Court, Kemp serves as the judge of the Criminal Division and presides over Drug Court in Independence, Cleburne and Stone Counties.
