Holiday Festival of Lights in Conway!

    Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

What is the Holiday Festival of Light?  Well it is more
than just a mile long display of animated Christmas lights to drive through and
enjoy with your family.  It is a gathering place to celebrate the joy of
the season with others in your community.  Families are invited to come
out and enjoy the model train display put on by the Conway Model Railroad Club,
have your picture made with Santa, run in the Dashing Through the Light 5K or
Fun Run, make children’s crafts, and eat concessions including hot cocoa,
    cookies, funnel cakes and hotdogs.

New to the festival this year is a heated structure to hold
Holiday Related Events.  The structure will be large enough to seat about
one hundred people and will have a stage for performers.  There will be a
special opening weekend starting November 28th with a choir and
carolers from Grace United Methodist Church, children’s stories being
read by Mrs. Claus and children’s holiday crafts.  In addition on
November 28th there will be a welcoming ceremony for Santa Claus and
horse and buggy rides through the lights, and on November 29th there
will be a classic car show presented by the Conway Christian Car Club.  If
you would like to walk through the lights or run do not forget to sign up for
our Dashing through the Light 5K or fun run which takes place on December 2nd.
For more information about any of our events please contact
Jim Rhodes at 470-6640 or Jennifer Held at 513-6913.  For a complete and updated
schedule of events please visit us at www.qualityoflifecouncil.org.

The Holiday Festival of Light will open nightly from six to
nine o’clock starting November 28th and ending December
27th.   Admission is $5 per car, $25 for a season pass, and $60 for a
Holiday Festival of Light Membership.  A Membership will include a season
pass, Long Sleeve Festival T-shirt, and 10% off all concessions.  The
festival will take place at Centennial Bank Soccer Park at 1200 Trey Lane in
    Conway Arkansas.

The Holiday Festival of Light is put on each year by the
    Quality of Life Council, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) agency serving Faulkner
County.  For more information on the Holiday Festival of Light or the
Quality of Life Council contact Jim Rhodes at 501-470-6640

39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Arkansas Army National Guard Homecoming!

    Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

    Homecoming

Approximately 160 Soldiers with the El Dorado and Crossett
based Troop A, 151st Cavalry Regiment, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of
the Arkansas Army National Guard  are scheduled to return from Iraq as the first wave of the
brigade’s 3200 Soldiers coming home at the end of the brigade’s second deployment in
    support of Operation Iraqi Freedom

The arrival ceremony has now shifted from Tuesday to Wednesday
night 6 November.  The return times of each incoming flight of Soldiers will
remain fluid until the flight actually departs Kuwait approximately 24 hours
prior to the ceremony.  The Arkansas National Guard has established a Family
Support Hotline which will provide a recorded voice announcing the current
schedule for the incoming flight.  Families can call the hotline at (501)
212-8000.  They will need to know the specific unit their Soldier is
returning with.  The recording will only be updated twice daily, in the
morning and the afternoon, due to multiple potential timeline shifts.

On April 6, 2007, the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, initially
received its alert order to prepare for its second mobilization in support
of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The brigade was initially called to active duty
for training in Arkansas on October 1, 2007, and was federally mobilized on
January 2, 2008, when it departed the state for continued training at Camp
Shelby, Miss. Approximately 3,000 Soldiers with the brigade deployed to the
Iraqi theatre of operations in late March.

The 39th is comprised of 46 organic units from 42
communities across the state of Arkansas.  An additional 11 units from
across the state were called up to augment the brigade’s mobilization.  Following
this first return of troops, the remainder of the brigade is currently
scheduled to return in several waves throughout the month of December.
