GED Test Schedule

The GED Test will be given at Ozarka College in Melbourne, Arkansas on April 8 & 15 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 516 of the Wyth Duke Adult Education Building.
The test will also be given at the following locations in April:
Mammoth Spring, AR Simmons First National Bank 9:00 a.m. April 6 & 13
Ash Flat, AR Annex Courtroom 9:00 a.m. April 7 & 30
Mountain View, AR Ozarka College 9:00 a.m. April 7 & 14
Salem, AR Courthouse 9:00 a.m. April 9 & 27
You must present an Arkansas photo ID, a Social Security Card, and proof of passing Practice Test scores dated within the last year. There is no cost to take the GED Test. However, if you plan on taking the test at any of these locations, you MUST register by calling Ozarka College at 368-7371 or 1-800-821-4335 before the day of the test. Because of increased demographic information needed, it will be necessary to allow two days for the testing.

The beautiful sounds of stringed instruments will be presented by North Central Arkansas Foundation for Arts and Education (NCAFA&E) Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay.
The Festival String Quartet and the Phillippe String Quartet will present an afternoon of classical music.
The Festival String Quartet is composed of Leonard Kacenjar, Russell Lewis, Pam Martin and Zachery Grant.
Leonard Kacenjar celebrates thirty-two years as the conductor of the Marshall Symphony Orchestra. He received his BS degree from Juilliard School of Music in New York City and his MS degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. His illustrious career includes serving as Concertmaster for the Shreveport Symphony for seven years. He founded the Shreveport Summer Music Festival and is currently its’ artistic director. At present he is serving as adjunct professor at Panola College in Carthage, Texas.
Violinist Russell Lewis is presently Concertmaster of the Marshall Symphony Orchestra and Principal Second Violinist with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. He was Principal Second Violinist for the Akron Symphony in Ohio from 1983-1985 and has taught violin at Northwestern State University in Nachitoches, Louisiana. Mr. Lewis currently resides in Longview, Texas and directs choirs at Kilgore Bible Church.
Pam Martin, cellist, is a member of the Marshall Symphony and Longview Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Martin has been playing the cello for twenty-four years, is married and has two children.
Zachery Grant, viola, earned a Music Education degree from Northwestern Louisiana University and plays viola with the Longview and Marshall Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Shreveport and South Arkansas Symphonies.
The student performers for the concert will be the Phillippe String Quartet. The “Family Phillippe” String Quartet consists of Rachel, first violin, Susanna, second violin, John, cello, and Joanna, viola. Their parents are Robert and Cara Phillippe of Berryville, Arkansas. Their maternal grandparents are Analea and Milton Cook of Fairfield Bay.

The Arkansas Craft Gallery Grand Reopening!
Thursday, March 26th, 2009The Arkansas Craft Gallery in Mt. View will celebrate it’s grand reopening Saturday April 4th,2009 from 9:30 amTo 6:00 pm. The gallery is the official retail outlet for the members of the prestigious “Arkansas Craft Guild”.
Founded in 1960 the organization has been nationally recognized as one of The country’s first and finest member owned art cooperatives. The Arkansas Craft Guild’s mission is to encourage and promote excellence in both traditional and contemporary crafts and fine art in Arkansas.

New Book By Local Author Mark Alan Rorie
Thursday, March 26th, 2009“The Polk Bayou Kids and The Search for Civil War Gold” a new book by local author Mark ALan Rorie is now available at Batesville Printing, 240 South 4th Street. The Old Independence Regional Museum and the Paper Chase Book Store.
Go on an adventure with Luke, his dog Kristi and four of his friends as they discover a secret door that leads to a cave and maze of tunnels under the historic district of Batesville.
Book signings are Saturday March 28th from 2 to 4 PM at the Old Independence Regional Museum and April 3rd from 11-2 PM at the Paper Chase Book Store.
A reading of Mr. Rorie’s book will be Friday Night, April 10th at the Batesville Area Arts Council, 246 Main Street in Batesville.
Clinton High School Student Selected As Third Winner in Leadership Program
Wednesday, March 25th, 2009CLINTON, Ark. (March 30, 2009) – Clinton High School Senior Ashley Kirk has been selected as the third winner in the “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program. Kirk is a member of both the Clinton Future Farmers of America and the Van Buren County 4-H Club.
Kirk, 17, daughter of Stacy and Lisa Kirk and John and Tonya Allgood, was selected for her participation and leadership in both FFA and 4-H. Kirk serves as a judge on the Dairy Team and also shows animals in the county fair each year. She loves animals and takes care of them for her family.
As sponsor of the “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program, Chesapeake Energy will donate a computer to Clinton High School in Kirk’s name. And as a weekly winner, she is now eligible to win her own laptop computer at a banquet for winners and their families in May.
The “Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders” program is open to all students in Van Buren County. People in the schools and communities can nominate students who belong to either FFA or 4-H and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities. A weekly winner will be selected for eight weeks, and a computer will be donated to each winner’s school.
The nomination form will run every other week in the Van Buren County Democrat and the Fairfield Bay News. An online version of the form is also
available on the newspapers’ Web sites as well as the Web site of KFFB-FM Radio. The two newspapers and KFFB are media partners for the program.
“Chesapeake wants to recognize FFA and 4-H students for their leadership and contribution to their communities,” said Robert Zeiler, manager of community affairs for Chesapeake in Arkansas.
