Animation Course Set for Fall Semester at UACCB
Animation lifts our spirits, touches our hearts, tickles our funny bones, and rocks our world. Since Winsor McKay’s Gertie the Dinosaur first ambled across the screen in 1914, moviegoers of all ages have delighted in the antics and adventures of animated beings of all kinds. Betty Boop, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Porky Pig, and the Road Runner are as much a part of our national fabric as baseball, apple pie, and fireworks on the 4th of July. In recent years, technological advances have dramatically altered how animation is created, but its universal appeal remains the same. UACCB, in partnership with Ozark Foothills FilmFest, will offer a Special Topics: Animation course this fall, taught by Ozark Foothills FilmFest president and co-founder Bob Pest.
The course will look at the history of animation, with a strong focus on influential American and Canadian animators like Walt Disney, Max Fleischer, Chuck Jones, and Norman McLaren. It will examine new trends in animation, including Japanese anime and animated films based on graphic novels. Students will also view recent animation screened at the past several Ozark Foothills FilmFests, as well as work from other festivals. “We are fortunate to have built a great collection of animated works that have screened at the festival,” notes Pest.
