Veterans of all United States military branches–peacetime or wartime–are invited to attend the July meeting of the Izard County Historical and Genealogical Society. During the program, they will receive special recognition and thanks for their military service. The meeting will be held Sunday, July 14, 2 p.m., Senior Citizens Center, Highway 9 North, between Melbourne and Brockwell. Guests are welcome, and the public is invited to attend. Speaker for the program is Paul Gray Miller, a native of Izard County. His family understands the significance of sacrifice in military service. His father, Robert G. “Bob” Miller, was killed in action December 18, 1944, near Radscheid, Germany. Before Bob joined the U.S. Army as a Private, he served as Izard County Circuit Clerk. After a varied career as a school teacher, school superintendent, businessman, and cattleman, he continued the political tradition of the Miller family. From 2006 to 2012, he served as State Senator for District 10 in the Arkansas Legislature. Currently, he owns the Dodge dealership in Melbourne.
