Greenbrier Man Sentenced to 50 Years For Robbery of Conway Metropolitan National Bank in Conway

A Greenbrier man was sentenced to 50 years today for robbing a Metropolitan National Bank located in Conway in 2008.

Alfred O’Neal King, Jr., 45, was charged by 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden with Robbing the Metropolitan National Bank branch on Donaghey Avenue in Conway on February 26, 2008.  According to police reports, King entered the bank at approximately 9:00 a.m. wearing green overalls, a baseball cap, glasses, and wearing gloves.  He asked to make a complaint against a teller that had been rude.  After he was taken into the assistant manager’s office, he pulled a sawed-off shotgun out of his overalls and demanded money.  He left with just over $2,700.00 dollars.  One of the tellers ran out of the back door of the bank and alerted police shortly after King pulled out the shotgun.

King was apprehended by police a short time after the robbery in some apartments near the bank.

“The Conway Police Department did a fantastic job of solving this case.  The bank employees calm demeanor under extremely difficult circumstances, undoubtedly saved lives and helped officers identify the Defendant,” said Vaden.

King pled guilty to Robbery, Theft of Property and Criminal use of a Prohibited Weapon and received a sentence of 50 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
