Harding University to present “Shrek the Musical”

Harding University will present “Shrek the Musical” Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. as a part of the University’s 90th annual Homecoming weekend. The department of theatre has been working since January to produce the show.

“Our cast is doing a phenomenal job,” Producer Cindee Stockstill said. “Shrek is unrecognizable in his prosthetics and fat suit; the donkey is hilarious and performs well with Shrek; Fiona plays a princess with three different types of personalities; and Lord Farquad is very in character with so much attitude. Our cast regularly breaks up in laughter during rehearsals.”

Stockstill said the musical is different this year because of the fairy tale magic being created on stage. The set involves a 28-foot dragon operated by eight people and was designed by theatre professor Robin Miller and created by art major Brantley Wheeler. The main set will display scattered pop up books and a 28-foot revolving stage below a large book with turning pages to create new scenes.

“This musical is full of high-energy fun and will be very enjoyable,” Stockstill said. “But there are also some very honest moments dealing with friendship, forgiveness and not judging others.”

Tickets for “Shrek the Musical” are available online at www.hardingtickets.com for $15 or $18. Tickets can also be purchased at the box office in Benson lobby an hour prior to the show. For more information contact the department of theatre at 501-279-5315.
