Honor Choir to perform free concert at Harding University

Honor Choir to perform free concert at Harding University

SEARCY, Ark.-Sixty-two high school students from 19 states will gather
at Harding University to study many different facets of choral music
and performance July 12-17. The Summer Honor Choir’s intensive musical
study will culminate in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July
17, in the Reynolds Recital Hall.

Dr. Cliff Ganus, director of choral activities at Harding, has
organized the week’s activities and will direct the performance.
Several Harding music teachers work together each summer to instruct
students. Dr. Arthur Shearin, Laura Eads, Dr. Kelly Neill, Robin
Miller, Chuck Hicks, and Ian and Jenna Thomas cover everything from
harmonization and voice to choreography and movement. Lis Jones is the
accompanist for the concert and rehearsals.

During the camp, students experience a week of college life as they
lodge in Harding residence halls, dine in the cafeteria and
participate in devotionals and recreational activities. After
completing the program, participants receive one hour of college music
credit at no additional cost.

The public is encouraged to attend the performance, which lasts less
than an hour and features a wide variety of choral selections,
including folk songs from Ecuador and Hungary, patriotic and novelty
numbers, and spirituals.  The final selection will consist of a staged
medley from “Seussical, the Musical.” For more details, contact Ganus
at 501-279-4311.
