Lyon Community Orchestra Concert April 14th

Lyon Community Orchestra features Music in our Schools, Pops

Lyon Community Orchestra moves its concert time up to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Brown Chapel of Lyon College, a time change from the Lyon Cultural Events Calendar.  The program showcases local and area string students in concert, the second half featuring the full orchestra performing a pops program.

Developing strings in North Arkansas include three soloists from Mountain Home, Stephen Wells, 17, Hannah Todd, 13, and Katie Hutchison, 14. The students of Dawn Cantwell perform the first movement of the Accolay Concerto in A minor for Violin and repeat the performance with the Mountain Home Orchestra in June.

Students of Barbara Reeve, participating in the Batesville Arts Magnet program at West and Batesville Junior High, appear with Lyon Community Orchestra joined by members of North Arkansas Youth Orchestra. They perform Song of the Wind, May Song, French Folk Song, Cotton-Eyed Joe, Canon in D by Pachelbel, Ocean Storm by Vivaldi and Ashokan Farewell from the PBS mini-series “The Civil War”.

On the lighter side are selections from Sleeping Beauty, the Wizard of Oz, Superman, Dances with Wolves, Leroy Anderson Favorites, and Lord of the Dance.  As seen in Riverdance, Irish dancers join the orchestra in a finale that will make your feet tap.

The orchestra is directed by Barbara Reeve and supported in part by Batesville Symphony League.  The concert is free and open to the public.
