U.S. Senator Mark Pryor today released the following statement after the Senate voted to modify the chamber’s filibuster rules. The Senate’s agreement included provisions originally proposed by a bipartisan working group that included Senators Carl Levin, John McCain, Mark Pryor, Ben Cardin, Chuck Schumer, John Kyl, Lamar Alexander, and John Barasso.
Today’s vote is a victory for bipartisanship and a significant step forward for the Senate. I was pleased to work with Senators McCain and Levin to craft this agreement that protects the rights of the minority, improves the legislative process, and maintains the integrity of the Senate. By curbing abuses and removing roadblocks, we’ve paved the way for real productivity and progress. I’m hopeful these common-sense changes will return the Senate to a place of debate and compromise and jump-start a productive Congress.
