Tachany Evans, of Atkins, Arkansas, has announced her candidacy for the Arkansas House of Representative, District 68. She has formally began campaigning with appearances throughout District 68, and is actively raising funds.
“Whether I am a candidate or not, my desire for improving our state for mychildren and the future generations is real, Evans said. “We all have a responsibility as citizens to participate in the election process.”

Evans says her goals as Representative are tax reform: to keep more money in tax payers’ pockets, encourage business investment and capital formation by creating the right business and regulatory environment to develop and attract more and better jobs, improving quality of education at all levels, and other issues important for the district, and the state. Evans is an Arkansas Tech University graduate, where she earned a bachelor of arts in Spanish and journalism. While there, she was a member of the Arkansas Tech University Women’s Cross Country Team. She is also a graduate of the River Valley School of Massage, and is a licensed massage therapist through the Arkansas State Board of Massage Therapy.

Evans’ professional background includes working as a language interpreter for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Administrative Office of the Courts, where her knowledge of the judiciary and judicial proceedings in civil and criminal cases were first learned. Her civic and community experience includes volunteering her time to the AARP Foundation Tax Aide program, which helps low to moderate income taxpayers. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Help Network, INC., for 5 years, holding the office of secretary/treasurer for two years. She has served as an assistant basketball coach for the Atkins Youth Association.

Evans lives in Atkins, and has resided in Pope County for more than two decades. She and her husband of 14 years, Antonio Handie, are members and attend church at Russellville Christian Center. During her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, hunting, boxing, training her dogs, and teaching dance. They have two children, Alejandra Handie, and Pe’Lar Handie. “I have the experience and ability to lead our state, confront the issues facing our citizens, and I believe there are better days ahead for Arkansas. I look forward to sharing my vision in the months ahead, and representing District 68.”
