Scott Wood of Batesville Chosen as Time Magazine Dealer of the Year
Monday, February 22nd, 2010Orlando, Fla.—Volunteerism and making his community “a better place to live” are what drive Scott Wood, who was named the 2009 Time Magazine Dealer of the Year during the opening session of NADA’s annual convention Saturday. Wood, of Stanley Wood Chevrolet /Pontiac Co. and Scott Wood Chevrolet/Dodge/Jeep in Batesville, Ark., told attendees that his love for his community and a passion to make improve the local economy have always motivated him to give back.
Wood started in automobile retailing “with a broom, a shovel and a wheelbarrow,” as a lackey in the dealership—or what would be known today as a “permanent lot orderly”—and progressed through the dealership ranks. “I swept up,” he said. “And that’s how it started.”
Wood said the honor is more than he could have ever expected: “We need more positives in our industry, and for me, this is going to be a highlight. This is far and away the highest award I thought I would ever garner.”

Louis A. Anderson US Census Bureau Talks on Open Mic
Friday, February 19th, 2010Louis A. Anderson US Census Bureau talks with Bob Connell General Manager of KFFB 106.1 on Open Mic about the importance of the US Census and job opportunities working for the US Census Bureau.
The important work of the Census helps to identify how $400.Billion is distributed to the States as turn back funds for roads, schools, hospitals and various infrastructures locally, should those decisions be based on population. Nationally, the Census Count balances the 435 members of the House of Representatives evenly across the population as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The Decennial Census has been done every 10 years, since 1790.
The U.S. Census Bureau maintains a number of offices throughout the United States, however the Decennial Census Offices opened in mid 2008 to count everyone in the United States for the “every 10 year census”. The Decennial Census Day is April 1, 2010 and operations have been on-going for the past year and a half, in preparation.
The Census Bureau will employ over 1.3 Million people in the United States to count every person once and in the right place. It is the largest peacetime mobilization of a workforce ever. Local Census Taker positions are available with hourly salaries starting at $12.75, depending on responsibilities and location. Part-time, weekend, or nights are available for any individual who needs a flexible schedule.
Applications are taken locally. To schedule an appointment, applicants must call (866) 861-2010 and the local census office will answer and schedule taking an application and an employment test in the immediate proximity to the applicant’s home. Census Takers are hired to work in the neighborhoods they live in, but any work mileage incurred is reimbursed as a government expense.
To localize our recruiting efforts even more, we will be at the Job Fair in Fairfield Bay at the Senior Center this Saturday, the 20th of February from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Applicants can sign up to provide their application and take the employment exam immediately. To schedule a spot for the employment exam, just call the Recruiting Hotline at (866) 861-2010.

New Rabies Law for State
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009(Little Rock) — The updated Rabies Control Act has new rules passed by the State Board of Health that allow for a longer interval between rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats. The new rules will become effective January 1, 2010.
The updated Rabies Control Act was passed by the Arkansas State Legislature in 2009 (Act 159). Under the new rules, all dogs and cats four months of age or older will be required to have a rabies vaccination given by a licensed veterinarian. Currently no age limit is specified for initial vaccinations. Regardless of the age of the animal at initial vaccination, a booster vaccination should be administered one year later (as recommended by every licensed vaccine currently available). Following the booster, dogs and cats should be placed on a vaccination schedule according to the labeled duration of the vaccine used. Both one- and three-year duration vaccines are available. There is also a four-year vaccine for cats.
If a veterinarian administers a one-year licensed rabies vaccine, the pet will need to be revaccinated one year later. If a three-year vaccine is chosen, the pet will be required to be revaccinated three years later. Pet owners should discuss the options of a one-year or three-year vaccine with their veterinarian, with the decision made in the best interest of the pet.
Rabies primarily exists in wildlife. In Arkansas, the host animals are skunks and bats, but any mammal can become infected if bitten by a rabid skunk or bat. According to Dr. Susan Weinstein, State Public Health Veterinarian, the biggest issue for our state is that many pet owners do not get their dogs or cats vaccinated at all. Rural dogs and cats, especially those that live outdoors, are most commonly exposed to rabid animals in the wild. These same outdoor dogs and cats are also the least likely to be vaccinated. All dogs and cats should be taken to a licensed veterinarian to be vaccinated for rabies. Due to the routine physical contact between people and domestic pets, it is especially important to get these pets vaccinated in order to reduce rabies exposure to humans.
For additional information on updates to the new Act 159, go to the Department of Health website at www.healthyarkansas.com. To review changes in rabies vaccination requirements in the Rules Pertaining to Rabies Control, go to http://www.healthyarkansas.com/rules_regs/rabies_2009_draft.pdf
