Nearly 60 cast members, production crew and musicians will take the stage Homecoming weekend at Harding University to present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Shows will take place Oct. 26-27 at 8 p.m. in Benson Auditorium on campus.
In this theatrical production, the biblical story of Joseph is told through a musical parable. Joseph is his father’s favorite son among 11 brothers. Blessed with the ability to interpret dreams and the owner of an “amazing” coat of colors given to him by his father, Joseph’s brothers grow envious of him. Joseph is thrown into slavery by his brothers and eventually lands in jail after refusing advances of the wife of his owner. In jail, Joseph is quickly liked and respected as he interprets dreams. Pharaoh learns of Joseph’s ability and gives him great leadership over Egypt. After a number of years, Joseph’s brothers return to Egypt. After giving them a fright, Joseph grants their commands, reveals his true self and brings the family to be reunited. Musical numbers throughout the show vary from rock ‘n’ roll to calypso to country and western.
Filled with vocalists and a chorus of children, a narrator, Jacob, Joseph and his brothers, Ishmaelites, Potiphar, Pharaoh and many wives, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a production full of song and choreography for the entire family to enjoy with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.
Starring as Joseph will be senior Nate White, a history and leadership and ministry major from Omaha, Neb.
The narrator will guide the audience through word and song as the story of Joseph unfolds. Tori Wisely, a junior English and Spanish major from O’Fallon, Ill., will perform in this role.
Jacob, the father of twelve sons, who shows favoritism to Joseph will be played by sophomore John Michael Cronin, a broadcast journalism major from Navarre, Fla.
David Goble, a sophomore theatre major from Chillicothe, Ohio, will play the role of Potiphar, a wealthy and powerful Egyptian who purchases Joseph into slavery.
The most powerful man of Egypt, Pharaoh, will be played by Keith Johnson, a senior Bible and religion major from Flower Mound, Texas.
Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at the Benson Box Office or online. Box office hours are Monday through Friday 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22-26.
