Ozark College-Mammoth Spring To Begin LPN Progrm

The Arkansas State Board of Nursing recently approved Ozarka College – Mammoth Spring’s proposal for a licensed practical nursing program. This 11-month program is scheduled to begin at the start of the spring 2014 semester in January and will accept 16 candidates.

“It takes a lot of work and effort to implement a nursing program in any school,” said Ruby Johnson, division chair for Allied Health at Ozarka College. “The community and people of Mammoth Spring and South Missouri have been so supportive of our efforts, and we are very grateful and excited to be bringing this technical program to the area.”

In order to be considered for the program, students must be registered at Ozarka College and have completed all prerequisite work, as well as pass all
entrance exams. The prerequisite courses required include basic human nutrition, math for nurses, body structures and function, and English
composition I.

Students must be enrolled in the prerequisite courses or have already completed them before they are eligible for entrance exams, which are
scheduled at the Melbourne campus. Registration will begin Sept. 1 and run through Nov. 1. An online application must be completed at Ozarka.edu and
entrance exams must be scheduled during this time.

“I am very pleased that Ozarka is now offering a nursing program at our Mammoth Spring campus,” said Dr. Richard Dawe, Ozarka College president. “As
a native of this region I realize how very important health care education is to the communities we serve. I want to thank everyone who has supported
our efforts to establish the LPN program.”

Currently, Ozarka College provides LPN programs at its campuses in Melbourne, Ash Flat and Mountain View.

An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 1-4 p.m. at the Mammoth Spring location, located at 5th and Archer.
