Title: Thumbpicking Weekend at Ozark Folk Center May 13-14
Location: Ozark Folk Center, Mountain View, AR
Description: The Ozark Folk Center is pleased to once again host The Thumbpicking Weekend, May 13 & 14, 2010. The guest performers will be Comer ‘Moon’ Mullins, Eddie and Martha Adcock, Ben Hall and Washtub Jerry, all paying tribute to legend Merle Travis by playing many favorite Travis style tunes and telling stories about this talented artist. Merle Travis had an unequaled blend of talents as an innovative guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, guitar designer and author. His influence on several generations of performers – from Chet Atkins to Marty Stuart – is beyond question. He was a master at the “thumb-picking” style of guitar and recorded several classics, among them the Travis originals, “Sixteen Tons”, “Dark as a Dungeon” and “Over by Number Nine”, as well as introducing such standards as “Nine Pound Hammer”.
