UACCB to Offer Sign Language Classes
Sign Language for Beginners: Feb. 25, Mar. 4, 11, 25, Apr. 1, 8, 6 p.m. utnil 8 p.m. Row Johns Building, Room 816. Fee: $45 plus textbook to be purchased through UACCB Bookstore. Learn to sign and explore the culture of the deaf and hearing impaired in a relaxed setting. Participants will learn some basics of conversing in sign language such as key phrases, numbers, and finger spelling. Diann Anderson, instructor.
Intermediate Sign Language: Apr. 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Row Johns Building, Room 816. Fee: $45 plus textbook to be purchased through UACCB Bookstore. This is an interactive class that will include using the vocabulary used in beginning sign language, as well as expanding on additional vocabulary. Students will also become familiar with concepts, sentence structure, and body language of American Sign Language. Stephanie Patterson, instructor. Prerequisite: Sign Language for Beginners or prior experience.
Advanced Sign Language: Jun. 3, 10, 17, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Row Johns Building, Room 816. Fee: $35 plus textbook to be purchased through UACCB Bookstore. This is an interactive class that will build upon lessons learned in Beginning and Intermediate Sign Language. In this class, students will begin to focus on how to tell a story in sign language, using classifiers, body language and positioning. Stephanie Patterson, instructor. Prerequisite: Intermediate Sign Language or prior experience.
