University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville to Offer Scuba, Snorkeling in April

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s Community and Technical Education Division will offer two courses in April for beginner training in Scuba and Snorkeling. Bruce Fletcher will instruct both of these classes, the majority of which will take place at Lyon College’s Becknell pool.

Fletcher says he has loved the water and watching divers on television since he was a small child. He was certified in an open water diving course in 2007 and has gone on to complete more than ten specialty courses and two professional levels. He adds “I love the sport and want to pass it on to whoever would like to give it a try.”

Try Scuba will be an introductory class to gain knowledge about basic skills used in the water and to learn the basic equipment needed for scuba diving. Time will be spent in the pool with the scuba equipment and a portion of the fee may be applied to open water certification if students choose to continue training. Fee for this class is $60 plus $10 pool rental fee. This class will take place Tuesday, April 9, 2013, from 6-8:00 p.m.

Snorkeling will be a class for participants to learn what equipment is necessary to begin snorkeling. Facts, medical requirements, physical aspects of water on the body and safety procedures will also be discussed. Upon completion of this class, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary to enjoy a fun and safe time in the water. Students will need to bring a mask, fin and snorkel to class. The fee is $90 plus $10 pool rental fee. This class will begin April 16 from 6-8:00 p.m. in Independence Hall, room 102 and continue on April 23 and 30 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Lyon College, Becknell pool.
