American Patriotism is Alive in Clinton

Nineteen times a year United States’ flags dau n the streets of Clinton, Arkansas. Approximately 80 area businesses, churches, and organizations have chosen to show their American Patriotism and support our local Boy Scout Troop. Scouts of Boy Scout Troop #152, sponsored by Clinton Church of Christ, spend approximately 3 hours hanging the flags throughout Clinton, as ‘Hellas 3 hours collecting and storing the flags each “Flag Holiday Troop #152 offers this service to the community as its main fundraiser of the year. “Area businesses and organizations are asked to donate only $50 a year and the Troop provides the flag, pole and holder,” said David Culkin, Scoutmaster of Troop 152. “The monies raised stay locally. It is used to provide our Scouts the opportunity to attend Boy Scout camp during the summer. A cost of approximately $300 per Scout.

Our Scouts, as welles those from Cub Scout Pack #152, also place flags on the graves at the Huie and Hunter HillCelneteries each year for Memorial Day. “This has become an annualevent we look forward to participating in,” stated Calkin.

Saturday, April 11, we are planning a Flag Retirement Ceremony. It willoccur at Clinton City Park at 2:00 pm.,” Calkin concluded. Residents are encouraged to attend the ceremony, bring any flags they may have that need to be retired, and share what “American Patriotism” and the Flag means to them. If you are unable to attend and have a flag to retire, there are 5 drop off points in Van Buren County: City Halls in Damascus, Shirley, and Clinton have a tote to place flags in, FairHleld Bay tote is located at Department of Public Safety. Van Buren County Annex drop box is in the hallway
