Arkansas Symphony Orchestra presents Beethoven & Blue Jeans Nov 20-21

Marking the centenary of the Mexican Revolution, the ASO presents the beloved guitar concerto of Mexican composer Manuel de Ponce paired with two revolutionary voices, Beethoven and Stravinsky, at their most boisterous and humorous. Sharon Isbin, Grammy Award winner and leading guitar soloist, performs Ponce’s decidedly Mexican take on the concerto genre – a beautifully lyrical and transparent score propelled with spirited rhythms.

Stravinsky’s Suite for Orchestra opens the program with a youthful, witty, and comical set of musical popcorn. Beethoven’s 7th shows the composer with a humorous side; yet the strength and force of the great master is still at hand in an elegantly and perfectly constructed classical symphony. Rarely has a work contained as much vivacity and spirit as this symphony – the performance concludes with an Allegro, aptly described as con Brio!
