The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts will present Destination Mars at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Sept. 21.
Destination Mars is an ASMSA Science and Engineering Institute-Fusion event that will focus on the preparation and execution of an exploratory trip to Mars. During the event, participants will:
- Learn how to launch a spacecraft bound for Mars.
- Design and test a water filter that could be used to recycle water during a six-month trip to Mars.
- Compete in an egg-drop contest that will simulate a Mars landing.
- Hear the story of an ASMSA graduate who worked on the trajectory for the Mars Rover.
Destination Mars is free and open to all eighth-graders in Arkansas. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Dickinson Auditorium in Dickinson Hall on the UALR campus. Preregistration is required. Parents are encouraged to attend the opening and closing remarks in Dickinson Auditorium.
