Batesville Area Arts Council Closing Reception For Spinning Bones

The Batesville Area Arts Council welcomes you to the closing reception for Spinning Bones, a group exhibition at the BAAC Gallery on Main (226 E Main St), November 18, 5:00 p.m. –  7:00 p.m. Spinning Bones is a multi-media group exhibition by Luminous Lookout, a group of three Southern Louisiana based artists: Dawn Black, Kathryn Hunter, and Kelli Scott Kelley. Using representational imagery, their work visualizes narratives to inspire social dialogue and critique. Teetering moral ambiguities, existential repetitions, and anthropomorphic allegories are shared threads woven throughout all the artists’ work. The Luminous Lookout artists’ haunting, curious images address the current fragility of our time, and provokes critical thought about our place in the world.

The artists have exhibited both nationally and internationally at museums and galleries. Dawn Black’s work has been reviewed by the Washington Post, Art Papers, and artinamerica.com. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Paper and Watermark Museum in Fabriano, Italy, the University of Iowa, and the Columbus Museum of Art. Kathryn Hunter operates Blackbird Letterpress, a small letterpress printshop, and her design/illustration work has been commissioned by Clarkson Potter (Penguin Random House) , Metropolitan Museum of Art, Norton Simon Museum, and The Ad Council, among others. Kelli Scott Kelley is a Professor of Painting in the School of Art at Louisiana State University. Her work is featured in the permanent collections of the Hall Art Foundation, LSU Museum of Art, Tyler Museum of Art, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Special Collections, and the Eugenia Summer Gallery. All three artists are members at Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art.

Please join us for the closing reception on Friday, November 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a member-only Happy Hour starting at 4 p.m. The artists will be present at the gallery to give a brief artist talk at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This exhibition is sponsored by Citizens Bank.
