U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) is fighting to preserve the Senate filibuster as President Biden and Senate Democrats aim to erode the voice of the minority in order to advance their partisan agenda and push for a federal takeover of state and local elections.
In a column published in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Boozman argued the filibuster allows “Arkansas to punch above our weight and secure – and, just as importantly, stop – dramatic policy changes. It provides leverage we must preserve.”
He also warned the consequences of ending this Senate procedure.
“Should the Senate go down that path, it will result in exceedingly scorched earth where consensus is even harder to find and shifting majorities implement drastic policy transformations when a president is willing to rubber stamp what Congress approves,” the senator wrote.
Boozman denounced this power grab in a speech on the Senate floor on Tuesday as an attack on reasonable voter laws.

Democrats “want to bring the full weight of the federal government down on states like Arkansas that have sought to protect election integrity by instituting voter ID, blocking ballot harvesting, or ensuring the accuracy of voter rolls. These common sense safeguards are not an existential threat to our nation, nor do they warrant breaking the Senate and being unconstitutionally superseded,” Boozman said.
