Boozman to Join Rogers High School Students for Hour of Code Event

U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) will join Rogers High School computer science students for an Hour of Code event on Tuesday, October 4.

Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science that aims to prepare students for 21st century careers in technology.

Boozman will observe and participate in a hands-on lesson in coding and will visit with advanced placement (AP) computer science students about their experiences learning computer science.

Computer science classes are growing in Arkansas. Last year the Arkansas legislature passed a law requiring at least one high-quality computer science course be offered in every public high school in the state. Governor Asa Hutchinson is helping make the state a leader in computer science education and recently launched the Governor’s All-Region and All-State Coding Competition.

Boozman continued that commitment at the federal level by supporting the Every Student Succeeds Act, legislation signed into law that gave state and local school districts more flexibility to fund computer science through a new block grant.

The Hour of Code event is open to media.
