WASHINGTON – Congressman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) urged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to bring H.R. 872, the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2011, to the Senate Floor for a vote. The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry today approved the legislation by voice vote.
“I applaud the Senate Agriculture Committee for passing H.R. 872, a piece of common-sense legislation that eliminates duplicative and burdensome compliance requirements placed on our farmers, small businesses, and local governments,” said Congressman Rick Crawford. “I urge Senator Reid to quickly bring this legislation to the Senate Floor and allow the Upper Chamber to pass a bill that reduces the reach of government and allows economic growth.”
On March 31st, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill in a bipartisan vote, 292-130. The legislation eliminates a costly and duplicative court-ordered permitting requirement for the application of pesticides. This misguided court order will be implemented on October 31st. Without a legislative fix, the requirement would impose an economic burden to agricultural producers, foresters, public health agencies, the federal government, state agencies, and every day citizens. Congressman Crawford is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 872.
