Faulkner County Library Welcomes Leroy and Yvette McClure For Book Signing

August 10, 2019 @ 2:00 pm

The Faulkner County Library welcomes Leroy and Yvette McClure to a book signing on Saturday, August. 10 at 2:00 PM.

The McClures are the authors of Why Sammy Still Can’t Read, which provides various low-cost design and delivery models to foster a culture of reading in schools and organizations. Written to increase awareness of learning disabilities and ADHD, Why Sammy Still Can’t Read aids in fundraising to train 1,000 teachers to become Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs) or Licensed Dyslexic Therapists (LDTs) in the next five years.

Leroy McClure Jr., CALT, LDT is the CEO/Founder of FOCUS Learning Academy and Triple A Educational Services. Leroy McClure Jr. is an advocate for educating African American and minority children with dyslexia and ADHD. McClure is the only U.S. African American male Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT). In 1983, he graduated from Mayville State University in North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering. McClure was awarded a contract from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open a charter school named FOCUS Learning Academy. As the CEO/Founder, McClure manages a $10 million budget with 120 employees serving more than 1,200 students. This school is the only charter school in Texas history to win a boy’s state basketball championship title.

Yvette McClure is a wife, mother, co-author, grant writer, and former journalist, and has worked alongside her husband for 18 years at FOCUS Learning Academy. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a minor in history in May 1982. She then received her Master of Business Administration degree from Amberton University in 2017.
The McClures served as co-writers on The Shot Doctor: Nothin’ But Net, released in June 2015. The book chronicles basketball shooting techniques for their son, King McClure, one of the country’s leading scorers from the class of 2015.
