Farm to Table Weekend at the Ozark Folk Center State Park June 20-21

The Ozark Folk Center State Park is holding a Farm to Table Weekend June 20-21, 2015. Food, farming and eating together are deeply rooted Ozark traditions. Join us to meet local farmers, share recipes, enjoy food and learn how to care for the harvest. This new event will start Saturday morning with a tour of the Heritage Herb Garden in the park, a workshop on root cellaring and other methods of food preservation. The workshop will continue on with round table talks with growers, basic gardening advice, Ozark traditional foods, composting methods and more.

The Farm to Table Dinner will be served Saturday night in the Picnic Pavilion to workshop students and includes locally grown free-range Falling Sky chicken and pork; Meadowcreek greens, Star Gap Farm yellow squash and beans and more. On Saturday, we will board the park’s shuttle bus to tour Star Gap Farm and the Meadowcreek Project and have locally grown lunch.

“When we moved to the Ozarks,” said Jeanette Larson, Craft Director at the Ozark Folk Center State Park, “everybody told us we’d never have any money, but we’d always have plenty to eat. We’ve found that to be true. Growing your own food, sharing meals and wild harvesting are all time-honored Ozark traditions.”

Preregistration for the Farm to Table weekend is due by June 16, 2015. The cost for the weekend of workshops, Saturday supper, and Sunday farm tours and lunch is $139 per person (does not include lodging). Saturday workshops and Farm to Table supper is $75 per person; Farm to Table Supper only is $40 per person; a Sunday farm tour with lunch is $75.
