Description: January 6th at 6:30 West Side Schools are having a Russian Kaleidoscope. This will be a chance to learn about the art, music, and culture of Russia. Everyone is invited. It will be in the school cafeteria.

Sergei Shapoval, dressed in traditional Russian folk costume, begins his multi-faceted presentation by pinpointing Russia on a world map and noting its relationship with the United States and the former Soviet Union. Next, a full-color slide presentation offers a kaleidoscopic look at Moscow. A short video follows, highlighting a traditional folk dance. Then, the audience becomes involved by experiencing the Cyrillic alphabet. A live demonstration of Russian folk instruments- including the Garmoshka, Balalaika, flutes and Bayan/button accordion- gets the audience actively participating in folk dancing and playing authentic musical instruments. In the workshops the follow, Sergei elaborates on individual art objects and other unique materials. Last, but not least, Segei saves time for questions and answers.
