Griffin Votes for over $6 Trillion in Savings on House Budget

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after voting in favor of Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s FY 2012 budget resolution (H. Con. Res 34), commonly referred to as the “Path to Prosperity:”

“I am proud to support the House budget resolution that keeps our promises to seniors, saves Medicare and Medicaid, all while addressing our spending problem.  In addition to saving $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade, it eliminates hundreds of duplicative programs, keeps taxes low, and puts us on a path to pay off our national debt.

“Predictably, there are some who are using the same tired rhetoric of the past in an attempt to scare seniors and those close to retirement.  If you are 55 or over, there are no, zero changes to Medicare.  For those under 55, our budget provides more choice and gives you health care like that enjoyed by Members of Congress and federal employees.  The status quo or ‘Medicare as we know it,’ without reform, will lead to the dismantling of Medicare.  We must make responsible reforms now to save Medicare or pay the price.”
