Hundreds of hopeful college students will meet with church representatives from all over the country Jan. 27 at Harding University during the annual C-Harmony event to be matched to churches seeking compatible youth interns.
Using a process resembling speed dating, the approximately 45 churches represented this year will meet with several students over the course of a day to find the youth intern most suitable for their congregations’ needs.
Deborah Bashaw, Harding director of career services, has organized C-Harmony — short for Church-Harmony — since it began four years ago with 15 participating churches.
“We have had very positive feedback from the churches that come,” Bashaw said. “Many of them have hired interns who have made a difference in the lives of the teens in their congregation. Our students have also come back with stories about their summers and the wonderful growth experience they’ve had working with the churches.”
The event has 360 interview slots allotted for students this year.
Harding had a record enrollment this year of more than 6,800 students from 49 states and 53 foreign countries. It is the largest private university in Arkansas and attracts more National Merit Scholars than any other private university in the state. Harding also maintains campuses in Australia, Chilé, England, France, Greece, Italy and Zambia.
