Heritage Farmworks of Heber officially certified as Animal Welfare Approved

Heritage Farmworks’ cattle and pig herds have been officially certified as Animal Welfare Approved. This certification and food label lets consumers know that Heritage Farmworks’ animals were raised in accordance with the highest animal welfare standards, using sustainable agriculture methods on an independent farm built with pride and hard work.

“We believe strongly in preserving heritage breeds through sound conservation principles and high welfare farming,” says owner Brian Eason. “To us that means using a pasture-based farming system.  It also means that our customers, family and friends enjoy superior taste and quality when they eat Heritage Farmworks products. The AWA seal is an excellent way to show consumers that that we uphold the highest standards of animal welfare. It gives them confidence in our products and in our farm.” Like other AWA farms across the country, Heritage Farmworks understands the growing consumer interest in how farm animals are being raised.

AWA Program Director Andrew Gunther says, “The accountability and integrity offered by Animal Welfare Approved farmers is unmatched in food production. We’re glad to have Heritage Farmworks on board.”

Animal Welfare Approved is a national nonprofit organization that audits, certifies and supports farmers raising their animals with the highest welfare standards, outdoors on pasture or range. Called a “badge of honor for farmers” and the “gold standard,” AWA has come to be the most highly regarded food label when it comes to animal welfare, pasture-based farming, and sustainability. With farms across the country and in Canada, AWA serves as the eyes and ears of the conscientious consumer.  All services are offered for free to farmers and all standards, policies and procedures are available on the program’s website, making it one of the most transparent certifications available.
