Illegal Alien Lands in Jail After Man was killed in Traffic Accident

A Faulkner County man was killed Monday night when another driver, identified as Guadalupe Lopez, forced his vehicle off Interstate 40.
Concerned citizens reported that a red Ford Taurus driven by a Hispanic male was seen driving erratically on the interstate. Witnesses had become so disturbed over the dangerous driving that multiple calls to 911 were made. It was reported that a vehicle had been forced off the road and had flipped over.
A license plate for the Ford Taurus was provided to law enforcement and the tag returned to Lopez. Conway Police Department officers and Arkansas State Trooopers responded to the site of the wreck and to the residence associated with the tag number provided.
Lopez arrived at his residence in the vehicle described by witnesses. As officers made contact with Lopez, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol. After performing field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer exam, Lopez was charged with driving while intoxicated and negligent homicide. It was also determined that Lopez was driving without a valid driver’s license and did not have valid insurance on his vehicle. A search of the car resulted in a small amount of methamphetamine being located in the driver’s side door.
Lopez is presently being held in the Faulkner County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 bond; however, since he is an illegal alien Immigrations and Customs Enforcement have been notified to begin the deportation process.
“This is a tragic case and on behalf of my office I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the victim. While I am pleased the deportation process is proceeding, it is important to note that the State of Arkansas has every intention of prosecuting and punishing Mr. Lopez before he leaves this country.” said Twentieth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden.
