Improvements to Interstate 49 Require Overnight

Construction work on I-49 in Springdale requires overnight lane closures on I-49, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Work continues Sunday night, August 21, as crews place the final surface on the roadways on northbound and southbound lanes of I-49 at the Elm Springs Road interchange (Exit 73) and between the Spring Creek bridges (south of Exit 73) and Wagon Wheel Road overpass (Exit 76). The median and outside lanes of I-49 between Sunset Avenue/U.S. Highway 412 (Exit 72) and Wagon Wheel Road will alternately be closed during this time to allow for construction.

The overnight lane closures will occur nightly starting on Sunday, August 21 and ending Friday morning, August 26, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

Northbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Southbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

This project (CA1101) is part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.4 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 412 to Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016.
