The Democratic Party of Arkansas announces that America’s most well known political consultant, James Carville, will be the keynote speaker at the 2010 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Saturday, July 17, at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.
“James Carville is no stranger to Arkansas politics,” said Governor Mike Beebe. “He is an enthusiastic, thoughtful, and entertaining national opinion leader who will gear us up for the campaign season.”
An actor, author, commentator, and acclaimed political consultant here and abroad, Carville has entertained audiences for years with his Cajun wit and humor.
Carville served as campaign manager to then Governor Bill Clinton in the 1992 campaign we remember so well. And for those who were not around to experience it as it happened, they can see Carville in the Academy Award nominated documentary The War Room.
In addition to Carville, this year’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner will feature Governor Beebe, U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry, Vic Snyder and Mike Ross. Also participating in the evening’s festivities will be Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, Secretary of State Charlie Daniels, Treasurer Martha Shoffner, Auditor Jim Wood, Commissioner of State Lands Mark Wilcox, and Democratic members of the Arkansas General Assembly. Democratic nominees: Chad Causey, Senator Joyce Elliott, David Whitaker, Senator Shane Broadway, Pat O’Brien and L.J. Bryant, and many other Democratic leaders will also be in attendance.
“I look forward to welcoming James Carville back to Arkansas,” said DPA Chairman Todd Turner. “I know from my recent travels that our county committees, clubs, and Party auxiliaries are excited about the 2010 State Convention, Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and the other events scheduled that weekend. This is a time for Democrats to gather and honor the outstanding public servants and activists who work for all Arkansans.”
The Jefferson-Jackson Dinner is the highlight of a dynamic and busy two days of Democratic events and meetings. There will be a silent auction and the Democratic Party of Arkansas will announce the 2010 Young Democrat and Democratic Woman and Man of the Year.
On Saturday, July 17, the 2010 Democratic Party of Arkansas State Convention will convene. At the State Convention the party certifies its candidates on the November ballot and elects its State Committee members. Many of the Democratic nominees for office are also expected to address the State Convention.
