The Leslie Arts and Heritage Committee, part of the Leslie Re-Vitalization project has received a grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage to develop a program focused on the area’s founders, early settlers and local industry.
The public is invited to attend a two hour performance on Saturday, May 5. Audience members will receive a free copy of a book about the history of the town. Admission is free for these events. “Charlie Sandage and Harmony” will provide a program highlighting the history of the area focusing on the reality of pioneer life and the timber industry.
The production will entertain and educate audiences about the history, pioneers, and homesteaderswho created Leslie from the wild Ozark terrain. The program features information about the history of local industry.
The presentation will also feature an interview with Leon Jennings, 92, who was born and raised in Leslie. NOTE: An incorrect heading appeared in the Marshall Mountain Wave (April 5, 2012 issue) titled “OHAC to Receive Heritage Month Grant”. OHAC did not apply for, receive the grant, or sponsor the event. The only involvement of OHAC is to provide the Heritage Center as the facility for the performances. The Leslie Arts and Heritage Committee is the sponsor of this event
