Second Friday Frolic returns to Main Street on Friday, April 12. This celebration of our community, open to everyone, begins with a public reception at the Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) Gallery at 246 E. Main Street. Come and meet the new co-directors, Paige Dirksen and Carly Dahl, who are doing an outstanding job of elevating the arts council. Be sure to check out the world-class art work from the 2013 BAAC National Juried Exhibition. The gallery will also be selling art from the exhibition, Ozark Foothills FilmFest’s popular 2013 poster, and art by local artists, including woodworker Dave Timko. Ozark Foothills will also be giving away three copies of the powerful short drama, The Darkness Is Close Behind. Light refreshments will be served. The gallery is also open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 4:00.
Simply Southern Music Hall will feature David Lynn Jones and Friends, featuring David and Ila Jones, Dennis Horton, Chuck Young, and Jerry Bone.
David Lynn Jones and Friends: David Lynn Jones, Ila Jones, Dennis Horton, Chuck Young, and Jerry Bone. David Jones is an American country music singer-songwriter. Between 1987 and 1994, Jones released four studio albums. He also charted four singles on Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. His highest charting single, “Bonnie Jean (Little Sister),” peaked at number ten in 1987. As a songwriter, Jones wrote “Living in the Promise Land,” a number one hit for Willie Nelson in 1986.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. or early seating. Music is from 7:00 to 9:00. Admission is $5, $2 for children. Simply Southern is located at 201 E. Main Street.
Many of the Main Street stores will remain open until 7:00. Elizabeth’s Restaurant at 231 E. Main will be open for dinner from 5:00 to 9:00; Elizabeth’s is proof that fine food does not have to be expensive and that a relatively small town can support the kind of “white tablecloth” restaurant that usually flourishes in larger communities. Count your blessings and enjoy your meal. Elizabeth’s is a recipient of Eye on Independence awards for Best Service and Best Place for a Romantic Dinner. Second Friday Frolic will continue to grow over the next few months as new businesses like Divine Portrait Studios, just up the street from the BAAC, open; new projects evolve; and seasonal change allows use of the Pocket Park for live music and other outdoor events.
