Museum to Host 5th Annual Fall Family Day Oct 22

Title: Museum to Host 5th Annual Fall Family Day Oct 22
Description: Have you ever wondered how Native Americans kept rain from pouring into the smoke flap of their teepees, or how long it took to make a horseshoe? Find the answers to these questions and more at Old Independence Regional Museum’s 5th Annual Fall Family Day featuring the Indian Inter-Tribal Association of Arkansas and Patrick Thompson of Heritage Springs Blacksmiths. The event will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and to come prepared to have fun.

For the past three years the Inter-Tribal Association has entertained and educated Family Day audiences with Native American Pow-Wow dance demonstrations and crafting presentations. This year visitors can look forward to an exciting program with an emphasis on teaching dance steps and demonstrating Native crafts and traditions.
This humanities program is made possible by local support from Independence County and the City of Batesville, as well as by Challenge Grant Endowment funding from the National Endowment of the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Old Independence serves a 12-county area: Baxter, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Poinsett, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff. Parts of these present-day counties comprised the original Independence County in 1820s Arkansas territory.

The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for seniors and $1.00 for children. The museum is located at 380 South 9th street, between Boswell and Vine Streets in Batesville. During your visit, stop by our gift shop.
