Scotty Lewis at Faulkner County Library

The Faulkner County Library announces the launch of poet Scotty Lewis on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 PM.

Scotty Lewis’s debut book, Arkansas Ghoulash, is a marriage of epic and lyric poetry surrounding the shooting death of the poet’s elder brother. The poem centers on a horrific instance of domestic violence, rippling out in shockwaves through a vibrant and eerie domestic landscape. Reinventing identity in the wake of trauma pushes the Lewis to examine the circumstances – racism, religious fundamentalism, physical and psychological violence – that led to the fatal encounter between him and his brother.

Scotty Lewis holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Arkansas. He currently lives in Conway, Arkansas. When he isn’t teaching, he spends his time exploring the Ouachita and Ozark mountain ranges and the rivers and swamplands that fall between them. His work appears in Arkansas Life, the Bear Review, the Toad Suck Review, and The Meadow. Generally speaking, Lewis’ work seeks to balance formal poetic devices with organic images and turns of phrase. The language, like the imaginary speakers voicing it, are simultaneously terse and forgiving, intimate and distant.

All library events are free and open to the public.
