South Fork Nature Center Program in Choctaw on Saturday, June 16th

There’s something for everyone at South Fork Nature Center in Choctaw on Saturday, June 16th, when children and adults can enjoy naturecrafts, trail walks, and picnics.The gate will be open so visitors may drive to the historical logcabin.

At 9:00 a.m. is an outstanding opportunity for a nature walkwith Docent/Naturalist Shirley Pratt, who will share many interesting factsabout all kinds of plants, herbs and their uses. Her expertise includes being aretired biology teacher and a former AR state park naturalist interpreter.

Also at 9:00 children are invited to create their ownpersonal Bug House with Docents Kay Verboon, a former park ranger at a Louisiana stateprehistoric Indian site and Artist Joyce Hartmann. Bob Hartmann, a biologist,and Bob Verboon, a taxidermist, will help them learn about and catch insects.“Don’t worry,” Kay adds, “just in case there’s ashort supply, we’ll even bring some extra bugs for the children to takehome with them.”

Parents can choose to stay with their children during thecraft time or walk on the trails. Families are invited to bring a picnic lunchor snacks to eat together afterwards at the picnic tables.
