Stu Smith To Speak At Old Indepenence Regional Museum

The Old Independence Regional Museum is pleased to announce that Stuart Smith, District 63 Representative to the Arkansas Legislature, will speak at the museum on Sunday afternoon, May 19, at 2 PM. Representative Smith was a first term representative in the recently completed legislative session. He will discuss his perspective on the session and respond to questions from the audience.

Stu Smith is a well-known figure in the Batesville community and the surrounding area. He is a Batesville native, a 1982 graduate of Arkansas (now Lyon) College, and served the Batesville School District as a teacher and coach for over three decades. During his tenure he was the head coach of the baseball (for eleven years) and girls track (for twelve years) teams for twenty-three years, winning ten state championships and 22 conference titles. Stu was also the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach of the Pioneers very successful football team, winning eight conference titles, three state runner-ups, and one state championship.

Coach Smith received numerous accolades including twice being selected as the Region VI National Coach of the Year and being elected to the Batesville Area Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 and to the Lyon College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
