Dr. George Lankford of Batesville, Arkansas, will speak about the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and how local groups throughout Arkansas can use the Sesquicentennial to think about the issues of the Civil War.
Lankford will also discuss “War Chronicles: Independence County’s Civil War, 1863-64”, a play that he wrote based on a large collection of quotations from diaries and letters written by citizens of Independence and Jackson Counties and by soldiers of both armies and military reports time during the war. The play will be presented in February on the campus of UACCB.
Lankford, a retired professor from Lyon College, is a member of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and connected with the Independence County Historical Society and the Old Independence Regional Museum.
