The Ozark Folk Center State Park is sponsoring a photography contest for 2012 Season

The Ozark Folk Center State Park is sponsoring a photography contest. The mission of the Center is to keep the crafts and music of the Ozarks alive. At the park you will find Ozark folks of all ages playing music and creating handcrafted items ranging from black powder rifles to hand stitched quilts. It is a great place to capture the unique passion of the Ozark people for their art and music.

The theme for the 2012 photography contest is “Ozark Folks.” Photographs entered in the contest must be taken during the 2012 season at the park. The grand prize for the picture that best fits the theme includes publication of the winning photograph on the cover of the Ozark Folk Center 2014 Calendar of Events and the photographer’s story inside.

There are three divisions – Youth, for people under 16; Amateur for anyone who has not been paid for a photograph; and Professional. Prizes have been donated by the Ozark Folk Center craftspeople for the first place photo in each division.

There are many reasons to visit the Ozark Folk Center and to take pictures. The Center offers classes and workshops throughout the year in folk music, herb lore, cooking, dancing and crafts. There are special events almost every week. Check the web site at to plan your trip. The Craft Village is open Tuesday-Saturday until November 24. There are music shows in the auditorium Wednesday-Saturday evenings.

The entry deadline for the contest is December 31, 2012 and winners will be announced in January 2013. Complete rules and entry forms are available on the web site or email for a copy.
