UACCB will offer Sign Language Class Oct. 8th

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s Community and Technical Education Division will offer a non-credit class in sign language on Monday evenings during October and November. Instructor for this class is Diann Anderson.

Anderson obtained her start in sign language by taking a course at UACCB when it was Gateway Vo-Tech in 2000-2001. She has successfully worked with the deaf community for the past ten years. For the past seven years, Anderson has served as sign language interpreter in church and says she loves to share her experience with people that have a desire to learn how to communicate with the deaf.

Along with providing sign language basics, participants in this course will explore the culture of the deaf and hearing impaired in a relaxed setting. Participants will learn fundamentals of conversing in sign language such as key phrases, numbers, and finger spelling. The fee for this class is $45 plus the textbook which can purchased through the UACCB Bookstore.  The dates are: October 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Row Johns Building, room 816.
