UCA Journalism Program To Cover Election Night Nov. 6th

Students from the UCA Journalism program will be at the Faulkner County Courthouse on Nov. 6 to cover the 2012 election.

Students involved with The Echo newspaper, News6, The Fountain online newspaper, David Keith’s Political Reporting and Donna Stephens’ Advanced Reporting classes will do live election coverage.

The Echo staff plans to do a special edition of newspaper dedicated to election coverage.

“This is part of a continuing effort to provide professional experience to our cohort of young journalists,” said John Gale, chair of UCA’s Department of Mass Communication and Theatre. This effort brings print, online and broadcast reporting together in a modern newsroom convergence.”

News6, which airs on Conway Corporation Channel 6 and streams on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/uca-s-channel-6-live, will begin coverage at 7 p.m. and end around 11:30 p.m. Anchors will be live in the studio reading the final poll numbers. Three teams of reporters will provide live coverage at the courthouse and at the local Republican and Democratic headquarters.

News6 Director Lacey West said reporters would pre-record interviews with local candidates that will play throughout the night. Candidates agreeing to participate include District 35 State Senate candidate Linda Tyler, District 67 State Representative candidates Stephen Meeks and Samuel Lane, District 70 State Representative candidates Cody Bassham and David Meeks, District 72 State Representative candidate Rocky Lawrence and Faulkner County Sheriff candidates Tommy Earnhart and Andy Shock.

The Fountain will post polls and updates from the elections throughout the night at myfountainonline.com.
