Volunteers Needed for Cleanup in Greers Ferry!

GREERS FERRY LAKE, Ark., July 20 — The Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Association and the Army Corps of Engineers are seeking volunteers to pitch in Sept. 12 during the 40th Annual Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Cleanup.

Volunteers interested in assisting should check in at 8 a.m. at any of the Greers Ferry Lake Marinas, Little Red River Trout Docks, Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery, or the Little Red Fly Shop.  The cleanup will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Sponsors are asking those with boats to bring them to transport their own families and friends or to help with transportation for volunteers who do not have boats.

Boat owners will not have to use their boats to transport the recovered trash.  The Corps has made arrangements for contractors to pick up trash left by the volunteers along the shoreline.  To facilitate the contractor pick-up, volunteers should leave the bagged trash in conspicuous locations around the shoreline for later pick-up.  Trash bags for shoreline litter will be furnished to all participants at the check-in stations.

Service Recycling Inc. will buy aluminum cans at Narrows Park from 8 a.m. to noon.  A barbecue pork sandwich lunch with all the trimmings and soft drinks will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to the first 750 volunteers at Narrows Park.  Entertainment also will be provided.

Cleanup sponsors encourage those who want to clean a favorite area to call in before Sept. 12.  To sign up for lake areas, call the Corps at 501-362-2416.  To sign up to clean along the river, call the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery at 501-362-3615 or Jed Hollan with the Little Red Fly Shop at 501-887-9988.  The Little Red Fly Shop will also provide lunch for folks picking up on the river.  For general information call the Association toll-free at 888-490-4357.
