Winner Will Receive a $2,500 Scholarship
The William J. Clinton Foundation announces the details of its annual essay contest, “Ideas Matter,” and encourages Arkansas students to put their good ideas into action to confront some of the world’s most urgent challenges. The winner of the essay contest will receive a $2,500 college scholarship.
Students in 11th and 12th grades are invited to submit a 500-word (minimum) essay addressing the following writing prompt: “In today’s interdependent world, there are many challenges facing our world. The Clinton Foundation’s mission is to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote healthier childhoods, and protect the environment.” Choose and define one of these topic areas, and then propose your own ideas and solutions to help solve the problem.
“We are pleased to offer this scholarship again and hope that every Arkansas junior and senior will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity,” said Stephanie S. Streett, executive director of the William J. Clinton Foundation. “Last year, we received hundreds of essays from students across the state and hope to see even more participation this year.”
The essays must be postmarked by Nov. 9, 2012. Entries should be sent to:

Essays will be reviewed by a panel of educators led by Dr. Judith A. Hayn, an associate professor of the Teacher Education Department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The winner and runners-up will have the opportunity to meet President Clinton during one of his future trips to Arkansas.
Last year, hundreds of high school juniors and seniors from every corner of the state submitted essays. The panel selected the winner, Ben Harris of Berryville High School, and two runners-up: Destiny Quinn of Jonesboro High School placed second, and Mia Le of Siloam Springs High School placed third place.
