It’s first season in 1957, “Leave It to Beaver” had to go up against “The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin” during prime time, so kids had to make a tough choice. Then, after CBS decided not to renew, the show was picked up by ABC . . . who promptly scheduled it opposite family favorite “I Love Lucy.” And to add insult to injury, “Leave It to Beaver” never cracked the Nielsen Top-30 before it went off the air in fall 1963. But the only other sitcom from the point of view of a child DID, and “Dennis the Menace” was a CBS sitcom about a boy who got into more mischief than Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver.
