Cirque Eloize Cirkopolis To Open UCA Public Appearances

The University of Central Arkansas will open its 2013-14 Public Appearances season with Cirque ÉloizeCirkopolis on Sept. 14.

The 7:30 p.m. performance is set for the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.

“Cirkopolis performed by Cirque Éloize is a wonderful way to kick off the 2013-2014 season at Reynolds Performance Hall,” Director of Public Appearances Amanda Horton said. “It is a high-energy show that will thrill the audience with astounding acrobats, an original musical score and a unique stage design. We are fortunate to bring back the award-winning Cirque Éloize to the UCA campus. They performed Rain in Reynolds in 2006 to a packed house of people who were amazed by their creativity, style and talent.”

Cirkopolis consists of the fusion of dance, theatre and circus. Twelve acrobats who are multidisplinary artists reinvent themselves and challenge the limits of the city.

According to the Cirkopolis website, “At Cirque Éloize, we have always nurtured our shows through encounters with creators from different horizons. We have also always favored a multidisciplinary artistic approach, which is enriched with artists of several nationalities.”

The group has nearly 4,000 representations in 36 countries and 436 cities worldwide. In the past year Cirkopolis has traveled through Europe and Mexico.

Cirque Eloize’s ninth production is co-directed by Dave St-Pierre and Jeannot Painchaud.

“Cirkopolis was imagined as a crossroads — between imagination and reality, between individuality and community, between limits and possibilities,” Cirque Éloize Artistic Director and Co-Director of  Cirkopolis Jeannot Painchaud said, according to the website.  “The show is driven by the poetic impulse of life, the physical prowess of the circus and its humor, at once serious and light-hearted that entail our emancipation and freedom. Entering Cirkopolis is all about letting go and allowing yourself to be borne aloft by hope.”

Stage design is by Robert Massicotte and depicts a simple yet imaginative universe. The 12 acrobats defy routine through fantasy, comedy and music.
