Harding University to host state home school convention
Harding University will host the Arkansas Home School
Convention for the 11th-straight year May 15-16. More than 1,000
parents and students are expected to attend.
The event is organized by The Education Alliance, a division of Family
Council, and will feature workshops and demonstrations on a variety of
topics, including curriculum choices, available scholarships and
grants, standardized testing, identifying and teaching children with
learning disabilities, college preparation, nutrition, teaching gifted
and talented students, and Arkansas home school law.
More than 100 vendors from across the nation will offer the very
latest in educational materials as well as supplementary materials for
after school and summer activities. In addition, there will be a used
curriculum sale where parents can sell their old books and purchase
new ones.
Featured speakers include David Hazell and Caleb Colley. Hazell has
been involved in the home school sector since 1987. He spent many
years as a stay-at-home dad, providing education for his six children.
He and his wife, Marie, devote the majority of their time developing
My Father’s World curriculum.
Colley was homeschooled through high school and graduated in 2006 from
Freed-Hardeman University where he served as student body president.
He lives in Montgomery, Ala., and produces a children’s television
show for Apologetics Press.
The convention will wrap up with graduation ceremonies for 109 home
school students at 6 p.m. on May 16 in Benson Auditorium.
